A national guide lands close to this. Fixr, last updated January 31, 2025, lists a house lockout at $50 to $175 and a door lock install at $100 to $300. For our own work, home rekeys start at $79.99, veterans get 10% off new locks and business estimates are free.
What Moves the Price
- Hardware. High security cylinders, commercial hardware and smart locks take more time and tools.
- The clock. A lockout at 3 in the morning costs more to staff.
- Distance. A company inside the valley reaches you faster than one sending calls from out of state.
- Damage. Fixr lists damage to the lock or door, and the need to drill, as things that push a bill up.
What should never move the price is the technician showing up.

More Questions
Why do locksmiths charge a service call fee?
It covers a licensed technician and a stocked vehicle coming to you. It is standard in Las Vegas, and a fair company states it up front with the price of the work.
Does insurance or AAA ever cover it?
Sometimes. Many roadside plans pay back car lockouts up to a limit, and some home policies cover locks after a break in. Keep your receipt and ask your carrier.
