The Phone Quote Test

You can spot most bad locksmith calls before anyone reaches your door. Keep this page open while you are on the phone and answer six questions. Every No tells you why it matters.

A man on the phone beside a parked car
Run the test while you are still on the call.

Take the Test

They gave a full price with parts, labor and any night charge
They gave a legal business name, and it comes up when you search it
They gave a license number
They told you the arrival time
They take a card, and a written receipt comes with the job
They did not say the lock will have to be drilled before seeing it

0 of 6 Checks Passed

Answer as you talk. Every No opens up the reason it matters.

How to Use Your Score

Six out of six means you have what you need to make a fair choice. It does not prove the company is the cheapest, only that it is open about what you will pay and who is coming.

One or two No answers are worth a second question. Three or more is a good reason to hang up politely and call someone else. You owe nothing for a phone call, and you can say no at the door too if the price or the name changes.

When the Person Arrives

  • Check that the business name on the van, shirt or invoice matches what you heard.
  • Ask for a written total before any work starts.
  • If the price changes at the door, you can send them away.
